BP Volunteer Team Completes Projects at Krause and Earns Appreciation from Residents and Staff

16 Nov 2008

by: Claudia Richter

BP, once again, has given the Krause Center in Katy a wonderful gift of talent, time, resources, and energy. In October, more than 55 people attended the BP Work Day at Krause. The volunteers from BP had special t-shirts made for the day that said “NAGP/Krause, Project Team, 2008!” After many months of planning, the first BP employees showed up at Krause before 7:30 am with tools and supplies, and the remainder of the team gathered at approximately 8 am for breakfast, a safety talk, and a thank you talk from the Krause Staff.

The morning was busy with fence posts being laid; front curbs, lights and signs being painted; trees trimmed; the cafeteria painted; windows washed; baseboards installed; the CEO’s office painted; FRP (fire-resistant paneling) being installed in two rooms; power washing of the court deck, sidewalks, and side of the building; the wood deck cleaned and water-proofed; landscaping mulch, dirt, and grass spread out through the facility; and a huge dumpster brought to dispose of tree trimmings and to clean out closets.

A wonderful lunch was purchased by BP from Hasta La Pasta Italian Grill for the BP employees and Krause Staff. Pizza and dessert was also provided by BP for the residents. A good number of BP employees stayed until 5 pm, and a few will be back during the week to put some finishing touches on their projects.

The staff and residents responded in an outstanding way by thanking the BP Group as they passed by, saying, “Thanks for being here!” or “We love the paint!” One girl said, “Thanks for the grass …” Everyone laughed and smiled. One resident made a card while the BP group was still there and asked a teacher to allow it to presented to a group of BP employees in the cafeteria. It was an upbeat and fun time for everyone. We are so grateful for the heart of BP and their work at Krause!
